DelGrosso's Amusement Park is a small amusement park in Tipton, Pennsylvania, near Altoona. The park features two steel roller coasters, several family rides, Kids Kingdom, a mini-golf course, go-kart track, and a water park.  The park is known for excellent food and a great family atmosphere.

The park has free admission, with the ability to purchase a ride-all-day or ride and slide-all-day pass, or purchase tickets for the individual rides and attractions.  There are multiple picnic groves in the park for families to enjoy a picnic.

Brief History

Bland's Park opened in 1907 on the Blands' family farm.  The park was run by the Rinard brothers until the park went under during the Great Depression.  In 1946, Fred Delgrosso purchased the park and began to improve the park.  In 1987, the park opened a Pinfari Zyklon roller coaster.  The park was renamed "DelGrosso's Amusement Park" in 2000.

Throughout the years, the park expanded across Old Route 220 to include a water park, go-karts, and mini-golf.  The park opened 2 new roller coasters in 2004. The Crazy Mouse replaced the old Pinfari coaster, and the Wacky Worm replaced the former kiddie coaster. The park is still owned and operated by the DelGrosso family, founders of the DelGrosso food company.

Park Season

DelGrosso's Amusement Park is open weekends in May and daily from early June through the end of August. The park is also open weekends in September.

Park Layout and Major Attractions

DelGrosso's is divided in half by Old Route 220.  The parking lot, water park, mini-golf, and go-kart track are all on one side of the roadway.  The water park includes a family play pool and 4 water sides.  Guests can cross the roadway utilizing a narrow bridge.  The main section of the park is a large circle, with children's rides in one area, family rides in another, and the picnic pavilions completing the circle.

The midway from the bridge features a shooting gallery, rest rooms, lockers, games, and park information booth.  Stroller rentals are hidden down a path near the first aid.  There are 2 main attractions on the first midway; the Wacky Worm jr. steel coaster and the Free Fall mini-drop ride.  The next area is the "Kids Kingdom" children's area. There are 9 rides for children in the small area.  The middle of the main midway features an arcade, game booths, and most of the food booths in the park. One particular highlight is "Murf's Kitchen" which features great potato salad and sandwiches.  Rides and attractions in the middle include Scrambler, Yo-Yo, Carousel, and Pharaoh's Fury. The end of the midway features the X-Scream Tower and the Crazy Mouse roller coaster.

The final section of midway features a western theme called "Tipton Creek."  There are games, food stands, and rest rooms.  The main attractions in the area are the Space Odyssey, Tilt-A-Whirl, Paratrooper, Flying Bobs, Casino, Super Spiral, and the Dodgem.

TOURING PLANS

FOR ADULTS

This Touring plan is for Adults who wish to experience roller coasters, thrill rides, gentle rides, and the water park. It is simply a suggestion of when to go where and to avoid long lines. Adjust to your likes and dislikes. Squeeze in other rides and attractions if time allows or after completing all the Not to be Missed attractions.

Arrive at the park around 11 am. Leave your bags and bathing suits in the car or purchase a locker near the front gate if you don't want to walk back to the car. Don't forget to pick up a park map and guide at the front gate. Head across the bridge and down the midway to begin your day on the Crazy Mouse. Enjoy the many attractions in "Tipton Creek" next including, Super Spiral, Dodgem, Casino, Flying Bobs, Paratrooper, Tilt-A-Whirl, Tipton Creek Train, and the Space Odyssey. Head back to the main midway to enjoy the X-Scream Tower, Carousel, Pharaoh's Fury, Yo-Yo, and Scrambler.
Now would be a great time to enjoy lunch at Murf's Kitchen or the Tipton Creek Deli.

Spend the afternoon at the Tipton Waterworks and Tipton Rapids (Water slides) When you are ready to dry off, enjoy dinner at Austin's Texas Hot Dogs or back to the main side of the park for other treats. End your day with a game of mini-golf or a go-kart race.

After lunch, enjoy a drop on the Free Fall and a ride on the Wacky Worm if you want a coaster credit. Kids can enjoy the "Kids Kingdom" at this time. Older kids can enjoy repeat rides while the parents watch their little ones on the kiddie rides. Stop at the lockers or back at your vehicle for the bathing suits. DelGrosso's is a great park to spend the day with your friends and family. There are family rides, and a decent kids area. The rides are not the most thrilling in the world, but manage to bring a smile to most riders. The park features a comfortable atmosphere, small water park, and great food.

Parking
RATING: 68/100

DelGrosso's is easy to find, but there needs to be a bigger and better sign where to turn into the parking lot. The entrance to the parking lot is an intersection with a traffic light. Parking is free, but guests are on their own to find a spot and walk to the park entrance. The dirt parking lot does not have markers to remember where you parked. You can smell the pasta sauce from the parking lot.

Admission and Park Pricing
RATING: 89/100

The pricing at DelGrosso's is very reasonable, and the quality is excellent. The one day ride-all-day price for all guests is $13 and includes the water park and slides. A regular drink is about $2.10 which is very reasonable for an amusement park. Food is only about $7 for an entree, side, and drink. Snacks like funnel cakes are only $2.75 and other snacks in the park vary from $1.75 to $3.25. Gifts are reasonable and T-shirts are less than $15. The cost to play games of skill varies from $.25 to $2.

Cleanliness
RATING: 94/100

DelGrosso's is an extremely clean park. The parking lot was mostly clean, and the midways in the park were spotless. Rides and ride vehicles were spotless and freshly painted. Food serving and seating areas were clean as well. The garbage cans were emptied and not overflowing. Rest rooms were very clean, but had very wet floors. Queue lines were mostly clean with a few cobwebs. The parks buildings were all new looking and freshly painted.

Park Layout and Atmosphere
RATING: 73/100

The layout of the park is unique because of Old Route 220 splitting the park in half. The parking lot and water park is on one side, and the ride park is on the other side. The front entrance is nice, but lacks shade and music. Once across the bridge, there are lockers and strollers, but both were very difficult to find. There is an information center near the entrance, but there are minimal directional signs in the park. Midways are wide enough to handle the crowds, and the ride portion is one long L shaped midway.

Most midways feature music, decent landscaping, and garbage cans to keep the park clean. There is plenty of shade, but too few benches to sit and relax. Some ride areas are landscaped, while others are right on the midway behind a fence. Most midways feature paved surfaces, but some areas were covered with gravel.

Rides and Attractions
RATING: 61/100

There are over 25 rides and attractions at DelGrosso's. The park has a decent variety of thrill rides and family rides. All of the rides seem to be tamed down from other versions at other parks. Most attractions were landscaped and felt like permanent additions to the park, but a few felt very temporary.

Some rides features music, including a working antique band organ on the parks Carousel. The park featured traditional favorites such as a ferris wheel, train ride, and bumper cars. The park did not have any dark rides, car rides, or water rides. Ride cycles were very long at the park and ranged from 2 minutes to 4 minutes long.

Wooden Track Roller Coasters
RATING: 0/100

There are no wooden roller coasters at the park.

Steel Track Roller Coasters
RATING: 46/100

There is one adult steel coaster and one family steel coaster at the park.
Both are smooth and comfortable rides, however they feel slightly tamed down.

Crazy Mouse is a steel spinning wild mouse coaster with a 35 ft. drop at speeds of 30 mph. The 2 minute ride can be explained as a tea cup on a wild mouse track. There are several trim brakes that slow the ride down.
APW RATING: 59.39 / 100

Wacky Worm is a jr. steel coaster with an 8 ft. drop at speeds of 8 mph. The 45 second ride is very tame with trim brakes going down the only hill on the ride.
APW RATING: 42.83 / 100

*Roller Coaster Ratings are used from the official APW Roller Coaster Fact and Rating Sheet.

Operations
RATING: 72/100

Operations were average at DelGrosso's. There were few ticket windows open at the park, but lines weren't longer than 3 people per line. Smoking is not permitted in queue lines, buildings, and in the "Kids Kingdom" area. All of the park attractions were open with no downtime during our visit.

Safety
RATING: 65/100

The park had some security officers in the park, but not as visible as other parks. Ride operators enforce all safety issues, check restraints comfortably, and watching rides in motion. None of the rides had safety spiels or safety gates, but we felt very safe on all the rides and attractions.

Children's Area(s)
RATING: 56/100

DelGrosso's features a small Children's area called "Kids Kingdom." There is little theming, and little shade, however there are 9 attractions for the kids to enjoy.

Ride/Attraction Capacity
RATING: 83/100

The park performed average with ride capacity. Dispatch times for the roller coasters were between 30 and 70 seconds. Other rides loading cycles took about 3-4 minutes. Wait times for most flat rides were less than 10 minutes, with about a 15 minute wait for the Crazy Mouse. The wait would have been shorter if groups of 2 were being paired with other groups of 2.

Queue Lines
RATING: 38/100

Only about 40% of the queue lines had shade structures or natural shade. None of the attractions had estimated wait signs. Some queues were very narrow and uncomfortable, yet others were spaced out and in the shade. None of the queues had music, garbage cans, circulating fans, or theming. Some rides didn't have queue lines at all, with people lining up against fences or backing up onto the midways.

Counter Service Food/Seating Areas
RATING: 86/100

Counter service food at DelGrosso's is very good. The portions are excellent, served at the correct temperature, and taste excellent. Snacks all have excellent portioning and taste excellent. Seting areas are under umbrellas, in the natural shade, or under roofs in most locations. Finding a table is hardly ever an issue. During peak times all of the food lines were open, and moved well, but it did take almost 3 minutes to get the food once it was ordered.

Table Service Restaruants
RATING: 0/100

There are no table service locations at the park.

Rest Rooms
RATING: 60/100

Most rest rooms were air-conditioned and have enough stalls to handle the crowds. None of the locations have automatic flush, protective seat covers, automatic washers, or automatic dryers. There was no music playing, and no family rest rooms in the park.

Games
RATING: 78/100

There are 2 main areas for games and one small area near the park entrance. There is also a decent size arcade in the center of the park. Prizes are average, but the cost to play the games isn't too expensive either. Operators were quiet and not on microphones.

Shows and Entertainment
RATING: 24/100

There were no shows in the park, but there were street performers in the park. DelGrosso's also features several free concerts in the park throughout the season.

Employees
RATING: 84/100

Employees at DelGrosso's are clean, professional, and polite. Ride operators were friendly and pretty efficient in most cases. The food staff was very friendly and very efficient. Gift shop and games employees were also very friendly and efficient.

Gifts and Gift Shops
RATING: 61/100

Gifts and shops are the typical amusement park fare. The quality is good but none of the attractions have on-ride photos.

Nighttime at the Park
RATING: 85/100

Most of the midways were illuminated in the evening hours. Coasters were lit by spotlights and all the rides featured chaser lights and other fancy lights. All lighting was working correctly and some of the park buildings were lit up as well. None of the landscaping was illuminated at night. Very few rides had a noticeable amount of lights burned out.

Guest Experience
RATING: 95/100

DelGrosso's is a wonderful park for families to spend a day at. Most rides can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. The water park is small, but a welcome relief on hot days. Don't miss out of the excellent food at the park as well.

Its OK

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Personally I think this park is nice and I notice they change there rides up from time to time adding new rides but for every new ride they add they also take one out. There is hardly any shade in this park and are not a very good line system and lines end up on walkways. Parking is in a dirt lot and there is no markings and on a busy day is hard to remember where you parked. There are no real roller coasters in this park there is a steel one called the crazy mouse which is very similar to the one they used to have at lakemont called the mad mouse other then the cars spin on this one. The staff is some what ok not every everyone is friendly and some are rude but again NOT EVERYONE ONLY SOME. The food here is really good. There are some rides there that are amazing like the space odessy however it can be hot in there waiting for the ride to start but in my opinion is the most thrilling ride there. THere arcade is really small but does feature every nice prizes.I do think there prices are a little steep for what they offer. I am giving them a 65 rating I would return to this park again .
